Tour Time #3 - The Baton-Twirling Octagenarian

My batons disappeared after one of my shows, so my sweet husband ordered me a couple more and had them sent to Corinne's house, my hostess for 2 nights in Deland.

Corinne has an interesting story. She served for 39 years in Africa as a dedicated single missionary teacher. One of the families whose children she taught was Andy and Norma Gardner. They were close friends all through the years.

The Gardners eventually retired and moved to Deland, FL. Corinne retired and moved to Minnesota to live with her sister. After a few years, Norma died. Before she died, she told her husband that she wanted him to marry Corinne. She knew Andy needed a wife!

It wasn't long after that Andy made good on his late wife's wish. He wrote a letter proposing marriage to Corinne (age 79) and sent it special delivery to Minnesota. Corinne opened the envelope and digested its contents in shock. Marry Andy? She prayed about it for one day and got her answer from God. SAY YES!

Not long after, the two wed and lived happily for a few years in Deland. Then Andy died, leaving Corinne a widow in his lovely retirement home, which was where I stayed for 2 nights. I had fun getting to know Corinne as we made a jigsaw puzzle together.

Then the replacement batons arrived at Corinne's door. I slit open the box and pulled out the shiny sticks. I was a bit surprised when Corinne said, "Give me that!" I handed her a baton. She proceeded to blow me away, expertly twirling the baton in her hands, switching back and forth, behind the back, over the head, all the majorette skills she had learned in high school over 60 years ago. Muscle memory took over and Corinne was marching with the band again!

Enjoy Corinne's video and remember that growing old doesn't mean we need to stop having fun!
