Brooke the Magic Roadie

The year was 2012. I was pulling into the parking lot of the Callahan, FL Public Library and there was a family hopping into their van who greeted me heartily, “Mrs. Kate!” I didn’t recognize them, but they knew me from my music and were already huge fans. The oldest child was Brooke Davis, a delightful 12 year old girl. We talked for a little while and I asked if she’d like to help me with my library shows. She said yes!

That’s how it all started... in the parking lot! It was quickly evident that Brooke and I were kindred spirits. Soon I dubbed her “Brooke the Magic Roadie,” because every time she worked with me, magic happened! I’d perform a show and afterward, people would come up to me and say, “Wow! Your roadie was really great!”

Since Brooke was homeschooled, she had the freedom to tour with me. Our first tour took us through 7 states all the way up to Indiana! We traveled all over Florida and performed at many festivals. For fun, we’d stop at antique shops and try on crazy hats...or pull off the road and take pictures if we saw a pretty spot. We’d whip out our instruments at the drop of a hat and sing songs to make people happy. We spent long hours in the van talking and singing about our Lord Jesus, and discussing God’s Word. Brooke loved to tell stories about her wonderful parents, Tim and Kim Davis, and her crazy big family. Over the course of 7 years Brooke and I performed hundreds of shows together, reaching thousands of kids with our positive character-building message.

Brooke always wanted to be a missionary and serve God by reaching children. She writes beautiful songs and plays the autoharp and keyboard. Now 21 years old, Brooke is currently working in Cochabamba, Bolivia, fulfilling that dream. I will always have a special spot in my heart for “Brooke the Magic Roadie,” and so will hundreds of people whom her life touched.

“Meeting you all of those years ago in the parking lot of the Callahan Library was a Divine Appointment. I was given the opportunity of a lifetime, and through it, I discovered a love for people of all ages and walks of life, music, and songwriting. Thank you for seeing something in 12-year-old Brooke on that Tuesday afternoon. I am so thankful for you and all of the many things you've taught me (sometimes in conversation, but mostly through your music and the stories behind them). The love I developed for people was in part because of the way I saw it exemplified through your life. I love you, Mrs. Kate, and I miss you so very much! I will always be your Magic Roadie!” - Brooke Davis
